Justin Ruiz and Family in NYC

Justin Ruiz and Family in NYC, originally uploaded by jbar2008.

This last weekend I had the opportunity to compete in the NYAC
international open in New York. This competition along with a Friday
night dual meet before the tournament was my first competition since
the 2008 Olympic Trials. It was a long road, well longer than I would
have liked, to get back on the mat, but I am glad to be back in the
swing of things again. My wife and daughter were both there to support
me on my comeback, and I am so glad that they were there. We had a
great time while we were there.

Now I am actually writing this post from Finland. There is the Vantaa
cup tournament this weekend, and next weekend I will be wrestling in
the Haparanda cup. It gets so dark here so early that I hope that I
can stay awake during the day. I should be in bed right now but I am
wide awake. This is so much fun to be doing this again.

One important lesson that I was reminded of this weekend is that of
reviewing your work and evaluating your progress. I took some time to
watch some film from the tournament today, and I noticed some things I
did well, however, I also noticed some thing that I need to improve to
be the beat in the world. If we don’t take the time to evaluate
ourselves, then we are really shortchanging ourselves.

Thanks for your support and I will be checking in throughout the week.
I wish you the best of luck and fight for your dreams!

Justin Ruiz
